چکیده

Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an inflammatory disorder of the CNS with prominent involvement of the optic nerve and the spinal cord. An autoantibody against aquaporin-4 (AQP4), a water channel abundant on astrocytic foot processes, is the biomarker of the disease. The term neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD) includes AQP4-IgG-positive syndromes that may only partially fulfill contemporary criteria for diagnosis of NMO. NMOSD are frequently associated with other autoimmune disorders and there are increasing reports of NMOSD in patients with cancer.

Chronic neuropathic pain severity is determined by lesion level in aquaporin 4-antibody-positive myelitis.

IMPORTANCE Chronic, intractable neuropathic pain is a common and debilitating consequence of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) myelitis, with no satisfactory treatment; few studies have yet to explore its aetiology. OBJECTIVE To establish if myelitis-associated chronic pain in NMOSD is related to the craniocaudal location of spinal cord lesions. METHOD (1) Retrospective cohort ...
